There is something profoundly moving about seeing the women who shaped us standing side by side. Often, our most cherished family connections are separated by time and distance, leaving us with only photographs to cherish and remember them by.
A Generational Bridal Illustration changes that. It is a custom, hand painted illustration that brings together the women of your family: grandmothers, mothers and sisters, into one timeless portrait.
Mother of the Bride Gift
While many brides commission these portraits for their own homes, they are most often chosen as a deeply personal Mother of the Bride gift. There is no more meaningful way to say "thank you" to your mother than by gifting her a portrait that honors the lineage she helped build. Whether it’s a surprise on your wedding morning, a thoughtful Mother’s Day tribute, or a moving Christmas gift, this illustration is more than art, it’s a family heirloom that often brings happy tears to the eyes of every mother who receives one.

What is a Generational Bridal Illustration?
It is more than just a drawing, it is a visual family tree. Using your cherished family photos as a guide, I sketch and paint a portrait that places different generations together. It honors the "threads" that connect each woman’s story to the next, creating a moment that may never have been captured by a camera.

Beyond the Gown: Customizing Your Story
While many choose to feature every woman in her original bridal gown and wedding day, your illustration is entirely customizable to your family's history:
-
Mixed Attire: You can choose to be as the bride in your wedding dress, while your mother or grandmother is depicted in the attire they wore (or plan to wear) to the wedding.
-
Honoring Those Who Have Passed: One of the most beautiful aspects of this illustration is the ability to include a loved one who is no longer with us. I can paint them as you remember them most fondly, allowing them to "attend" the wedding and stand by your side in the portrait.
-
Present Day Portraits: If you prefer a modern look, I can illustrate your grandmother or mother exactly as they look today, creating a "live" moment captured in paint.

The Creative Process: How It Works
- The Consultation: We begin by discussing the process for your piece such as the reference photos needed for the best results and the turnaround time, and any important details you’d like to include.
- Place your Order. Place your order to secure your spot on my schedule.
- Send your reference photos to: illustrationsdiana@gmail.com 💌
- Sketching & Composition: I carefully sketch and arrange the figures to ensure the height, proportions and composition look natural.
- Painting: Once the sketch is approved, I paint with color every detail, from the delicate lace of a vintage veil to the specific drape of a modern gown.
- Refinement: You will receive a proof of the illustration to ensure every likeness is captured perfectly before the final download.

What I Need From You: Reference Photos
Don't worry if your photos are old, grainy or from completely different eras! I specialize in blending these sources into one cohesive style. To ensure the best likeness, please provide the following:
-
Clear, Front Facing Photos: For everyone included in the portrait, I need a clear, front-facing photo where I can easily see their facial features. This ensures I capture their unique expressions and personality perfectly.
-
For the Bride to Be: Since your big day might still be upcoming, I need a references of your vision! Please include:
-
Inspo Photos: Screenshots or Pinterest pins of your desired hairstyle, jewelry, and makeup.
-
A "Style Match" Photo: A photo of yourself wearing professional makeup or a similar hairstyle (from a trial or a previous event) is incredibly helpful for me to see how those styles look on you specifically.
-
-
For Modern Attire: If a mother or grandmother isn't in a wedding gown, send a photo where their face is clear, plus a photo or description of the outfit you’d like them to wear.
-
When Photos Are Limited: If you only have one vintage photo of a loved one who has passed, send the best quality image you have! I can often reconstruct details and colors during the painting process.
-
Height & Build: A quick note like "My grandmother was about four inches shorter than me" helps me get the proportions exactly right.
